I typically struggle with *expanding* my phrases, but I found this cheeky one.

Before: Secretaries asked me dumb shit like, "Is it raining?" as I peered at them through fogged glasses and dripped on their carpet.

After: Secretaries asked, "Is it raining?" as I dripped on their carpet.

Oof, lettering!

Ha! That is so perfect. And if you were drawing this, it'd be pretty easy to fog the glasses and raise an eyebrow.

I took a lettering class that covered mostly big spaces like posters and signs. I hadn't considered for writing. Thanks for planting that seed! xoxo

I love this! You could definitely have a "lettering edit". Just breeze through, without looking at the content of the page, and just look for words we usually use that aren't needed. Only then can you read the sentence. Could be interesting to try, at least.

I'm not close to that in my current book, but I'll probably try it out :)
